“Afgan Kızı”nın Fotoğrafçısı Pera Müzesi’nde “Steve McCurry: Dünyaya Açık Gözler”

00225_10, Cambodia, 1999, CAMBODIA-10089. CAPTION: Young Monks in the Rain. Angkor, Cambodia, 1999. MAX PRINT SIZE: 30X40 IG 6/19/2019 The formal properties of this image are subtle, but remarkably successful. The four monks are walking in the rain along the Naga causeway at Angkor Wat. The ordered balance of space and colour between the monks works in harmony with the receding perspective to connect them to the temple in the distance. "Buddhist Monks at Angkor Wat. Because of its enormity, the layout of Angkor Wat is difficult to comprehend when walking through the monument. From a distance, Angkor Wat appears to be a colossal mass of stone with a long causeway leading to the center, but up close, the many levels of stairways, chambers, courtyards and galleries come into view."- George Eastman House "Four monks make their way to prayer on a rainy day at Angkor Wat. As it was raining, the walkway, usually crowded with tourists, is empty, the way to the temple clear of distraction. McCurry structures a heightened awareness for the viewer by discovering the subtle patterns the monks create through their positions on the path - two near and two at a distance, their robes alternating in colour, and their arrangement in space echoing the shape of the temple spires at the end of a dramatic vanishing point." - Phaidon 55 Magnum Photos, NYC19664, MCS1999008K073 Buddhist Monks at Angkor Wat.
